Saturn's War

                       Saturn’s war

I could see the sun's light dying from the floating lab

in Saturn's atmosphere.  The darkness from the

moon came to scare the sun’s light away from me. I walk

slowly to the dark, cold kitchen.

I see Jeff the scientist in the laboratory studying some

shining star dust from the rings of Saturn. We had picked

the dust up on the way to the floating gray station. I opened

the cold fridge for some sparkling water. I looked out to the

dark and cold outside and I saw a little Alien

“JEFF!,’’ I called

“What? What?” Jeff asked in a worried voice.

”Look out there. It's an alien!’’ I cried

“I don't see anything. Stop wasting my time John,”

I looked back into the dark, deep space and it was gone. It was

like it was never there.

Inside Saturn there was a city of aliens. In the middle of the city

there was a tall creamy colored castle and inside there was a

king his name was Selapoc and a slave called Scoopla.

“So Scoopla tell me one more time what you sore on the surface

of our planet” In a controlive voice

“I saw h h h humans in a f f floating thing!”  Scoopla cried

scaredly.

“Then we must attack and see what they want”

“Scoopla get me the army of...’’    

‘‘I'm telling you I saw an alien’’ John cried

“Stop fooling around aliens don't exist” Jeff yelling at John

“Ok”John says in a sad voice Jeff walks into his lab to do

experiments on the rocks and gases of Saturn meanwhile

in saturn Selapoc and his slave Scoopla ran swiftly   to the

army of CATS dun dun dun

“Meow meow meow meow” Selapoc meowed to the cats

“You know they talk english sir” Scoopla told his master

“Th they do?”Selapoc Says in confusion

“I new that. What they do? ” Asked selapoc  

“Yes we do” yelled one of the cats

“Ok sorry” Selapoc apologise to the cat army

Back in the Space Station John was lying in his bed while

Jeff was having dinner Jeff looked into Johns room.

“John?” Jeff asked

John did not respond

“He's probably a sleep” Jeff imagened

In side of John's dream there was a big army with two aliens

leading one was on a big thrown and one was walking behind

the walking behind looked like the alien that he sore outside

the window  then the army started to run at the lab and burnt

it and blow it up with John and Jeff in side then John woke

up he looked over to the lab Jeff was not there we walked over

to his room and looked in side he was not there a John heard

a moan from the kitchen he ran when he got to the kitchen he

sore Jeff with big red cuts all over like cats had scratched him.

“Jeff are you ok!?,” John asked in a worried voice

“Who did this to you?”John asked

“The Aaa aliens with a Ccc cat army” Jeff cried

“You sore aliens?”Asked John

“Yyy yes i'm sorry that I judged you John” Jeff apologise

“It's ok”John expand

In the Casel the cat army was half the size and Scoopla was

cut up and sore the cat leader was making another plan to attack

Jeff and John again. Meanwhile in the lab John was helping Jeff

“So tell me what happened?” asked John                                                         

“There was an army of cats and two aliens one was on a thrown”

Jeff explained

“Hello this is NASA space station do you copy” John and Jeff

heard on the radio

“Saturn space station here” Jeff ripley's

“Are you ok we see that you were under attack” the radio says

in a worried voice “are you ok,”

“Yes we are fine”John takes over the radio
“We are sending back up!!” the radio yelles

“THIS MEANS WAR” John Yelles

“back up will be there in 6 months 10 days ok”

“OK” Jeff calmly replied

It had been 6 months and 10 days

“Backup should be here in 6 minutes” Jeff  told

“I know that you have told me 10 times now!!” John yelled

Then they heard a loud rumbling sound and looked out the

window there was big space base.

“Make that now” John told Jeff

“What do you mean,” Jeff asked

“There here”John replied

John and Jeff ran to the other window to see what they were

doing the door opens with a loud bang.

“wow!”John and Jeff yelled

Someone walked in with a big pack on his back
“O hi Mark,” John greeted

“John is, is that you”Mark cried

“Yes”John moned

“Do you to know each other?”Jeff asked

“Sadly yes”John moned

“We are brothers”Mark announced

A week later John, Jeff and Mark and the hole space team

had set off to kill the aliens that had attacked John and Jeff

“Are you all ready!!” Mark yells

“YES!!”everyone else yells

“No not really” One person yells

“Well to bad we are going in 3 2 1”Mark yells

The ship starts to sink into saturn 2 minutes later they can

see the big casil and a big cat army

“You never told me that it was a cat army”Mark said in confusion

When the ship lands everyone runs out and starts to attack while

Jeff, John and Mark ran into the casil with two big bags of C-4

“Quick put this C4 everywhere!” Jeff yells

“Scoopla can you tell me what is going on out there”selapoc asks

“Ok”Scoopla moans
“There is a big war going on out there sir”Scoopla explained

“I'm out of C4” Jeff yells

“Me to”Yells Mark

“Let's get out of here!!” yelled John

As Jeff,John, and Mark are running out there are dead bodies

on the ground

“Retreat retreat!!” Mark yells

Everyone is running into the ship there is still one boy fighting

“Come ON!!”Mark yells

As soon as everyone was going to lose hope Jeff jumps out

of the ship and kills the cat he is fighting

“Come on!”Jeff yells

“What's happening?” the boy askes

“We are retreating”Jeff says

The boy and Jeff jump into the ship and closes the door

“What was that!!” Mark yells at the boy

“You could of died!”Mark shouts at the boy

“I'm sorry”the boy apologizes

“Sorry won't cut it this time”Mark yells once again

The boy runs off crying

“Look what you did now!”Jeff yells at Mark

“He could of got you and himself killed”Mark shoots back at him

Jeff takes a deep breath

“Well we didn't die and we are fine so can we please finish the

mission?”Jeff asks

“Fine”Mark conplanse

Mark,Jeff and John were all looking out of the window at saturn
“3 2 1” Mark counts down

On 1 Jeff pushed a button and BOOM!! Saturn blows up

“What just Happened?!”Mark yelled

“We accidently blew up Saturn”Jeff replied

“I think we all just lost our jobs”John announce

Parvana Book Review

  “Parvana” By Deborah Ellis Illustrated by Associated press 1996

Have you read the book “Parvana”? I have, I think it's very interesting and a great
book over all.  “Parvana” is a fiction and contemporary fiction
(a thing that could be happening now)book because this could be happening to
any family in the world right now.

This book has many settings.
The first one is  Afghanistan with the bright sun shining down on a ginormous market,
with stands and tea shops with lots of people running around with food and items.
There are also broke down houses and buildings from giant bombs that have been
dropped onto the town. The second setting is in the house of Parvana and her family the
house has a high window painted over.

The story starts out with Parvana and her Dad walking in the market and sitting down in
there mat in the market later on her dad gets dragged out of there housse by tibilen gardes
and taken to jail. Parvana needs to step up in her family.  She cut her hair shorter and
changes her everyday clothes to look like a boy so she can go shopping and sell items for
money so they can live.

The message I got from the book was that life was strict.
Only boys and men were allowed out on the streets alone and had to do the shopping
and get the water for the family.

My opinion of this book is that this is a good book because it's describing what is
happening in other countries that we don't think about as much as the richer countries.

I also understood that this could happen that any moment in life no matter where you live.

Safe Cycling Skills

Safe Cycling Skills - A statistical investigation

Question: Are Karoro School senior students safe cyclists on the roads?

Recently Room One students participated in a safe cycling skills programme facilitated by
the New Zealand Police.

Students learned about the correct way to wear their bicycle helmet. Helmets need to be
tightened under the chin and behind the head the ear straps on the side had to be under
the ears. Then we did the N check on our bike. First we had to check if all of the spokes
are there and none of them are broken. After that we checked if the tyre is pumped up.
Then we had to check if the handlebars had grip and there are no bar showing. Then we
checked if the bracket turned properly, if not then you had to tighten it. Then we did the
brakes to see if they worked properly. After that we checked if the pedals had reflections
on them after that we checked the gears and finally we checked if it had a back reflector
and that is the N check  

The second session involved a skills based session on the court. We had to go around
a course following the road rauls like signaling  and to stop successfully, Not over taking
other people.

  

Following the court session students participated in a road circuit skills session.
There were people placed around the circuit and marks were given for using the following
skills: We had to go over ramps and over a ladder lying down to see if we can keep our balance.
Look behind them and say what they see on a photo out loud.

One of the collated graphs showed these results.  I think that this shows that I need to work on:
Looking behind after hand signals and Checking for parked cars.

This graph shows that I'm good at correct hand signals and I need to work on looking behind
after hand signals. My recommendation is that all kids should at least learn the basic road rules.

The sun was rising with no sound at all in Nusa Dua. Nusa Dua had a sewage smell in the air. There were banana trees, shops and bikes on the side of the road.  Heidi, Mark and Sean were waiting for the wind to change to the south. Heidi started to walk around unpashintle

“ Calm down Heide,” Said Sean trying to calm her down.

“ I’m tired of waiting for the wind,” Heidi said impatiently.

“Come look at the wails jump out of the water,’’ Sean says with excitement.

From the top of the mountain they could see some whales jumping out of the water like little fish.

It was about 10 minutes before the wind changed.  Mark took off first with his long jeans dragging on the ground then Sean and finally Heidi took off. They were up there for ages.

There was a big cloud called a cumulonimbus which could be dangerous to paragliders. Everyone was trying to land but Sean, Mark and Heidi got sucked up into it. Everyone was worried. All they could see were three paraglider wings and then nothing was there. They were circling for so long above the cumulonimbus Sean began to wonder if they would ever land again then Sean passed out.

Later Sean woke up on an island and there was no one in sight. For a second he was scared but then he heard a groan under his wing and it was Mark and Heidi.

“Are you ok!?” asked Sean.
“Yes,” groaned Mark and Heidi.

They were confused and didn't know where they were.

“We need to find shelter,” Mark insisted.

“And we need a campfire to keep warm,” noted Heidi

“I will go and find some wood for the fire while you two make a shelter,” suggested Sean.

“ Ok and get a lot because we need it to last us through the night,” said Mark.

“Ok!” yelled Sean walking into the woods.

It was getting dark and Sean was not back. Mark and Heidi had finished the hut.  Then Mark saw Sean in the distance with a lot of wood behind him on a big flax trailer he made. Later Sean finally made a fire

“How  did you find all of this wood?” said Mark

                                                                    “I climbed some trees with lots              of wood between two  branches,” said Sean  

“Nice,” said Mark.

The next day Mark and Sean climbed up this hill that was a volcano but they did not know that it was a volcano. When the felt a breeze they stop to measure the wind. It was 2 knots which is not near enough to fly. So they walked down back to the hut where eidi was cooking breakfast

“What's for breakfast?” asked Sean

“Eggs!!” snapped Heidi

“Where did you get them from?” wondered Mark

“There are some chickens wandering the island,” Heidi exclaimed in surprise.

They all ate the eggs and then Mark and Heidi went to get leaves for the roof for the hut they were staying in. Sean stayed and cleaned up the hut.  He made pillows from the harnesses.  He thought of using the wings as blankets but then he knew they had the keep them in one piece for when the wind was right.  Instead he got some flax and made three long blankets of flax and then he had a little nap.

In the woods Mark and Heidi had a lot of leaves in their arms.  They went back to the hut and when they got there they saw Sean was sleeping.
“WAKE UP!” yelled Mark.

Sean jumped with surprise.

“How long were you there for?”  Sean said with surprise.

“Two minutes,” judged Mark.

“Okay,” said Sean with relief.

“Lunch,’’ yelled Heidi.

“ I’ll race you there,” challenged Sean.

“ You’re on!” replied Mark.

They ran.  Sean was ahead by a good ten meters but then Mark put on the gas and ran with all of his heart and he won.

“YES!” Marked yelled.

“Nice,”  Sean gasping for air.

When they finished lunch Sean went to have a swim in the sea. After he came back

“Mark,” he yelled.

“What is it?” Asked Mark.

“Look at this stone,’’ said Sean with excitement.

“ It looks like a manaia,” Yelled Mark with excitement.

“I'm going to show Heidi,” whispered Sean.

“Heidi!” yelled Sean.

“What!’’ Heidi Yelled.

“Look I found a manaia,’’ Sean cheered.

“Cool,” Heidi replied.

Later they went to sleep in the hut Sean had the manaia in his hands.

Two weeks and 4 days went by, as usual Mark and Sean went up on the hill but this time there was smoke so they want to have a look and they found out that it was a volcano not a hill Sean meshed the wind it was 10 knots.

“10 notes!” Sean yelled.

“ Let's tell Heidi!” Mark yelled.

Sean and Mark ran down the volcano to the hut where Heidi was sitting.

“Heidi!” yelled Sean and Mark

“What,” Heidi asked confused

“VOLCANO!’’ Sean Screamed

“ Is the wind between 9 and 13 knots?’’

“Yes it’s at 10 knots,’’ Sean yelled

“ Let's go,” yelled Mark.

They grabbed their wings and harnesses and ran up hill. The hooked into their harnesses. Sean went first, he was away. He circled the Island until Mark and Heidi  got in the air and there was just Mark to get up, but the volcano erupted and Mark was still on the island. Rocks were flying in the air,  Mark runs and jumps.  Sean and Heidi can't see Mark because of the smoke, there was nothing, but then Sean sees Mark.

“Look there he is!” yelled Sean with excitement.

“Let's go home guys,” said Mark on the radio.

It took them 142 minutes to get back to the mainland.  When they landed everyone was happy to see them again.

For the three adventures this is something they never want to experience again.
